Starting out as a self-taught illustrator, Kabelo naturally moved from pen and paper to the digital canvas. That journey continues to shape his work today. He believes technology should power big ideas, making creative experiences more accessible, relevant and engaging for all. He champions the power of mobile and digital solutions to empower Africans and bridge the digital divide, driving transformation within the industry.
He plays an active role across many of the industry’s most important bodies. Kabelo currently serves as Deputy Chairperson of the Creative Circle, South Africa’s leading organisation championing creativity. In 2024, he was appointed Chairperson of the Loeries, Africa and the Middle East’s premier regional awards show, after joining its executive committee in 2023. Together, these roles reflect his trusted leadership, his commitment to nurturing creative excellence, and his influence in shaping the future of the industry.
Kabelo’s expertise has earned recognition beyond South Africa, with his perspective sought on the global stage. In 2023 alone, he served as a juror at Cannes Lions, The One Club ADC in New York, and the London International Awards. His judging experience also includes D&AD, the Clios, the Young Director Award and CICLOPE, spanning disciplines from Film and Digital to Branded Content and Creative Effectiveness. This deep involvement in global creative standards is reflected in the international recognition of his own work, which has been awarded at Cannes Lions, ADC New York, The One Show, D&AD, the Clios, the London International Awards and the Webbys.
Beyond his professional achievements, Kabelo is a devoted family man. He holds a deep passion for basketball and Hip-hop music, and is keenly interested in the eclectic curation of culture – both street and music – and the profound impact of technology in shaping it.
