Gaby de Abreu

Creative Circle Executive Committee | Gaby de Abreu

Born and raised in Joburg, Gaby is one of South Africa’s leading creative figures, specialising in design and brand identity. He recently founded Go 9 Yards, and prior to that was a founding partner and executive director of Switch.

Gaby’s body of work is deeply inspired by two lifelong passions: football and design. He is widely recognised for shaping some of South Africa’s most iconic brands, including the FIFA 2010 World Cup, Investec, and the evolution of the Springbok and Orlando Pirates football club identities, among many others.

He has received numerous local and international awards for his work and has served on juries for leading design shows, including the Loeries and the Cannes Lions. Beyond awards, Gaby remains an active contributor to the creative industry, having served on the boards of the International Council of Design and the Brand Council of South Africa, and currently sits on the boards of the Loeries and the Creative Circle.

Outside of work, Gaby enjoys exploring off-the-beaten-path villages and cities, immersing himself in cultural and culinary destinations, and spending time with real people – experiences that continue to influence his creative perspective.
